Lied matinée with works by Maurice Ravel
The Centre Bagatelle cultural center is delighted to welcome back the International Opera Studio of the Berlin State Opera – following the great success of last year's song recital, the young artists return with a special program.
To mark the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel's birth, five outstanding singers, together with pianist Markus Zugehör, will explore the song compositions of this master of French Impressionism. Ravel's works such as La Valse and Bolero are world-renowned – but his song cycles, full of sensuality and sonic refinement, invite the audience on a musical journey of discovery.
In this concert, the audience will encounter Shéhérazade, Don Quixote, and other figures that Ravel brings to life in his compositions. The journey leads to Greece, Spain, Madagascar, and the Orient – regions that Ravel portrayed in richly evocative soundscapes with his keen sense for the exotic and the fairytale-like.
The program will once again be moderated by Dr. Detlef Giese, whose knowledgeable and engaging style not only illuminates Ravel's musical output but also brings his personality and the cultural milieu of the Fin de Siècle to life.
A musical morning brimming with imagination, color, and stories – we warmly invite you to discover Ravel's soundscapes with us.
