Opening reception and awards ceremony for the 2025 art competition
The grand opening of the 2025 art competition exhibition will take place on 16 October 2025 at 7 p.m. in the Salon at Franz-Mehring-Platz 1. Young artists were invited to reflect on social tensions and current lines of conflict in the media of photography, film and collage under the title ‘War does not begin with the first shot’, a quote from director Konrad Wolf.

This call for entries was aimed specifically at a generation searching for forms of expression for the unspeakable in the midst of political upheaval and global uncertainty.
The exhibition will showcase the award-winning entries, as well as a selection of other submissions, revealing diverse perspectives on themes such as war, escalation, and social responsibility, both in terms of content and form. Through its selection, the jury honours artistic quality and critical engagement with contemporary realities.
