From September 24 to 26, 2025, the Yakut Film Festival will take place in Berlin for the first time. After successful editions in Paris – most recently in September 2025 – the festival continues its journey. The premiere in France attracted over 400 visitors in just three days.
Yakutian Film Festival in Berlin for the first time
Program in Berlin:
The Krokodil cinema will present outstanding films by directors from Yakutia over three days, each followed by Q&As. In addition, the Moabit Culture Factory invites attendees to an open discussion with the filmmakers.- All films will be shown in Yakut with English subtitles.
A nomadic festival:
Just as the Olonkho storytellers once carried their epic stories from house to house, today the festival travels the world – bringing film with them as a contemporary form of storytelling. It thus offers authentic insights into the culture, language, and traditions of the Sakha people.A new wave of cinema from Yakutia:
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Yakutian cinema has experienced a resurgence: Up to 15 feature films are produced annually, often independently and on low budgets, but brimming with creativity and supported by local support. These works are receiving international acclaim for their authenticity, aesthetics, and visual power. The Sakha Republic (Yakutia), home to approximately 480,000 Sakha people, lies in the Arctic and is considered the coldest inhabited place on Earth – a region whose stories are now conquering the screen in Berlin.Festival Program
