Artist Tour with Sibylle Fendt and Ivonne Thein

The works on display trace the transformation of documentary strategies in contemporary photographic discourse – from the established genre of documentary photography to staged documentaries, the expansion of the concept of media, and visions of the future.

Sibylle Fendt (b. 1974, DE) studied photography at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld and moved to Berlin in 2002 where she lives today. Uneins, her final university project, won numerous prizes. In 2003 she was part of the World Press Photo Masterclass. From 2003 to 2005 Fendt was a visiting student in Wolfgang Tillmans‘ class at Kunstakademie Frankfurt.

In 2006 she was a Talent at C/O Berlin and has been a member of the OSTKREUZ agency since 2010. Alongside commissions for magazines, she teaches photography at various secondary schools and works on independent, long-term projects which are exhibited internationally. She is interested in the themes of social exclusion and psychological, social and health-related crises, with portrait as her mode of choice.



Ivonne Thein (b. 1979, DE) is a Berlin-based artist. Her photography, videos, sculptures and installations have been exhibited worldwide, including in the Centre Pompidou, Fotomuseum Winterthur, C/O Berlin, ACP Sydney, Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, Lentos Linz and Amelie A. Wallace Gallery in New York. In 2008 she was a Talent at C/O Berlin. Her work has been recognized with numerous further accolades and awards, including from ifa, the Stiftung Kunstfonds, the VG Bild-Kunst and the BBK Bundesverband.
