Photographs by Lorenz Kienzle
The exhibition "Gardens of Resistance" presents works by photographer Lorenz Kienzle, who has been following a protesting allotment colony in Berlin-Wilmersdorf since 2023.
At the corner of Prinzregentenstraße and Waghäuseler Straße lies a plot of land that has never been built on in Berlin's history – allotments were tended and cared for there for 89 years. At the end of 2023, despite numerous protests, the tenants were given notice to vacate the site, as the site was to make way for a construction project by the state-owned real estate company Berlinovo.
Over the course of his work, Kienzle transformed from a photographic chronicler of Berlin's garden culture to a committed activist for the Climate Island of Wilmersdorf. His insightful photographs depict the quiet microcosm of the allotment garden and simultaneously give it a voice.
