Sake, Rockstars and Samurai

The fifth SAKE WEEK Berlin 2024 presents breweries from Japan, Europe and the USA for the first time.

This year's SAKE WEEK already includes over 100 events in many European cities.

Despite growing acceptance and awareness in Germany's top restaurants, sake is still a niche product. Internationally, sake enjoys significantly greater popularity in some countries and is more frequently found in consumers' shopping baskets, for example in the USA and the UK.

In fact, celebrities around the world such as the rock bands Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Phoenix, celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa, who runs the restaurant chain of the same name together with Robert de Niro, as well as Cate Blanchett, Brooklyn Beckham, Pharrell Williams and Richie Hawtin have dedicated themselves to sake.

A selection of exclusive sakes from such collaborations, some of which are no longer available for purchase, will be on display at the Samurai Museum during the event week.

In addition, sake enthusiasts and professionals can attend numerous events during Sake Week. The kick-off will take place on 1 October, World Sake Day, initially exclusively for trade visitors at the Samurai Museum.

The main programme in Berlin for Berliners and visitors to Berlin in over 20 different restaurants, bars and locations, where the Japanese sake culture will be introduced in workshops, tastings, dinners and lectures.
