Panel discussion
After the fall of the Wall, Berlin was transformed into a city of radical change. The 1990s were characterized by feelings of new beginnings and uncertainty, new opportunities and tough battles over distribution. Empty buildings and old border areas offered space for art, subculture and political experiments, but increasingly also for controversial investments and urban redevelopment.
35 years after reunification, we look back on this period of transformation: how did people and initiatives from East and West Berlin come together? Who was involved in Berlin and whose voices were ignored?
Based on personal memories, three contemporary witnesses discuss spontaneous cultural spaces, wild nightlife, squats, protests against investors, growing tensions over living space and commercial interests - then and now.
