Concert Reading for the Book Launch of Frank Viehweg

On February 24, 2022, Russia started a war against Ukraine, and Aleksandr Ratner wrote and published a variation of Yevtushenko’s “Do You Think the Russians Want War?” Following this, Aleksandr posted nearly daily new poems on Facebook. He continues to write his verses in Russian, for as one of his later poems says, “The language is not to blame.”

While working as a speech therapist and volunteering at Berlin’s main train station to support refugees from Ukraine, Kerstin was accompanied by Aleksandr’s poems, which she translated for Frank. Based on these translations, Frank created his adaptations. Over time, he set some of the poems to music.

On this evening, Kerstin Hommel and Frank Viehweg present the book BIG CHILD with songs and poems. Добра и мира! Мир Украïнi! (Goodness and peace! Peace for Ukraine!)
