Basic Urban Dance Course for Grade 11, Gerda-Taro-Schule, Leipzig, Saxony
Questions of identity accompany people throughout their lives and are closely linked to the theme of belonging. Who am I? How am I perceived by others? Of whom or what am I a part – and what do I want to belong to? Who or what can, must, and may I be?
These questions and the search for oneself are explored through dance in the piece, with one's own place at the center of the choreography.
The poem "Menschenmuster – Mustermenschen" (Men's Patterns – Pattern People) by former student Hannah Lesselberg runs as a common thread through the plot in segments. The dance exploration is complemented by a cappella sequences and the song "Keiner" (Nobody) by Lou, a participating dancer.
Since the 2023/24 school year, the Gerda Taro School in Leipzig has offered the option of taking the interdisciplinary foundation course "Urban Dance / Urban Dance Theater." As part of this course, the piece "I am passionately different..." was created as an annual output in the 2024/25 school year. A total of 32 students are involved.
The piece is largely composed of results that the students have independently developed and designed in the course of tasks.
