Courtyards as living spaces and cool islands in the stony city: an evening of talks on the special exhibition "Berlin Courtyards".
Berlin is a city characterized by asphalt, concrete and stone. But hidden between the buildings are courtyards, small or large, often green oases. They run through the city like a mosaic and form interconnected islands full of life. Courtyards have a local influence on the urban climate and can be a valuable habitat for many animals and plants. On the other hand, they are threatened by increasing sealing.
Experts Dr. Beate Witzel (Stadtmuseum Berlin) and Dr. Sophie Lokatis (Wildtierstiftung Berlin), among others, will report on and discuss the ecological importance of courtyards and ways to enhance them.
