The novel “Der Himmelsstürmern am Fenster” (The Sky Climber at the Window) by Christoph Papke has been published by Periplaneta. After a breakdown, burned-out social worker Martin Mann is admitted to a psychiatric ward. There he meets the mute Kurt Muleac, a long-term patient with a severe mental illness diagnosis. But the old man suddenly begins to speak—to the newcomer, of all people.
Kurt claims to be an extraterrestrial being who has been serving humanity for thousands of years. While the doctors warn Martin about Kurt's delusions, Martin finds his stories and philosophical discourses increasingly plausible. Between everyday life in the clinic, therapy, and bizarre revelations, he is caught up in a whirlpool of truth, delusion, and reality.
Christoph Papke (born in Berlin in 1954) studied social work and social pedagogy. After working for a leading association of independent welfare organizations, he took on teaching assignments at universities and other educational institutions in the early 1990s. From 1999 to 2014, he also headed a rehabilitation-specific integration agency.
In his works, the theater, non-fiction, and novel author deals with social issues and the coping with contemporary individual fates in a satirical and socially critical manner.
The Periplaneta TresenLesen: There will be reading and talking. And drinking. It's about literature, art, and the big questions. Entertaining, sometimes controversial, and unpredictable in its dynamics.
