SPIELRAUM

What makes it special: SPIELRAUM is not a traditionally curated festival, but rather a program developed collaboratively with the scene itself. It combines stage art with open formats for exchange and engagement—taking place in unconventional locations such as community centers, punk clubs, or shopping malls.

SPIELRAUM sees the venues of the independent scene as social spaces with artistic and societal transformative potential.

The program offers a wide variety of events.

A theatre workshop in a community center, an open house with circus jam, venue tours, open rehearsals with audience talks, a potluck-style gathering format, forum theatre, a multisensory performance for visually impaired children, dance and movement workshops, a gymnasium turned theatre space—and vice versa—as well as an open-air music theatre happening.

Many of Berlin’s independent venues are taking part, including FELD – Theater for Young Audiences, Globe Berlin, Uferstudios, Ballhaus Ost, Sophiensaele, Chamäleon Berlin, Theaterhaus Berlin, Acker Stadt Palast, Theater im Palais, and many more.

Together with artists, audiences, and invited guests, SPIELRAUM will launch into eleven days of lived diversity—with welcoming speeches, performances, music, and refreshments.
