The lecture focuses on a Florentine stucco relief with an accompanying tabernacle frame from the Berlin Sculpture Collection (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) in the Bode Museum. The relief was originally created by the sculptor Desiderio da Settignano (c. 1430–1464), with the colouring added by the painter Neri di Bicci (1418–1492).
The extensive art-technological investigation was based on the latest findings in art research, which shed new light on a stucco relief that had previously received little attention.
Through interdisciplinary exchange and the interlinking of scientific findings, conclusions could be drawn about a complex context of origin and open questions about the history of the object could be answered.
