Learning to shape the future

The future is uncertain – but we can shape it. You'll learn how to do this at this open lab evening. You'll learn about the Futures Thinking method, a combination of futurology and design thinking. It involves identifying, evaluating, and combining trends into desirable future scenarios.

Futures Thinking helps us better understand the complex challenges of the future – both professionally and personally. Because: The future is what we make of it!

Participants will focus on the agriculture of the future.

Without it, there would be no breakfast, no clothing, no furniture. It supplies us, shapes landscapes and societies – and yet it is under pressure: climate change, species extinction, and soil depletion are threatening its future. At the same time, it is itself part of these challenges.

Politics, research, and practice are developing new approaches to solutions – from agroforestry and smart technologies to climate-resilient farming methods. We as consumers also play a role in this. Agriculture is at a turning point – and its future is being negotiated now.

In this workshop, participants will look at agriculture and land use in 2040 in a region such as Berlin and Brandenburg:

  • Who will own the land in the future?
  • How can equitable access to land, water, and soil be ensured?
  • How can agriculture, nature conservation, climate protection, and urban development be meaningfully combined?

This event is part of the workshop series "Learning to Shape the Future," which takes place once a month as part of the Open Lab evening. In a total of four modules, you will learn sound methods for shaping the future, which you can compile into your own individual future toolbox.
