A performative book presentation by young Ukrainians in Berlin

Eight young people — two years, 26 photos — 26 letters of the German alphabet, three years of Russian aggression against Ukraine, 26 attempts by Ukrainian youth to explain this war to adults.

You are cordially invited to a special event on 24 June 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek (PopUp Saal, Blücherplatz 1, 10961 Berlin): young Ukrainians will present the photo book Alphabet of War.

Together with artist Masha Pryven, young people who fled Ukraine for Berlin in 2022 to escape the Russian war of aggression have reimagined the German alphabet — in pictures. Over the course of two years, they met regularly to write, discuss and take photographs.

The performative book presentation offers insights into an extraordinary project — into personal stories, photographic processes and joint decisions. Also present will be publisher Regelindis Westphal, who reveals what otherwise remains hidden: the journey from idea to finished book.

Language: German
