This concert evening is dedicated to compositions by Maurice Ravel, Gabriel Fauré, Lili Boulanger, Nadia Boulanger and Claude Debussy.

Lili Boulanger's two orchestral works, which are also available in chamber versions, were composed in the last months of her life, belong together, yet form a pair of contrasts.

The melancholy "Sad Evening" likely reflects her attitude to life at that time; the bright, carefree "Spring Morning" paints a hopeful vision.

Nadia Boulanger's piano fantasy from 1912 ranges from impressionistically tender to enthusiastically inspired by rhythms a la Stravinsky. Of her contemporaries, Ravel, Debussy, and Fauré, the latter in particular was close to the sisters as a teacher and fatherly friend.
