Documentary, USA 2023 (OmgU)
At the end of World War II, Nathan Hilu (1926–2019), the son of Syrian-Jewish immigrants in New York, then 18, joined the U.S. Army and was deployed, among other duties, as a guard at the Nuremberg Trials.
This experience inspired him to create countless sketches and drawings throughout his life. His style is characterized by the speed and immediacy of his ability to capture fragments of memory.
Nathan Hilu spent over 70 years creating a visual narrative from his memories. But what happens when these memories take on a life of their own?
