To mark its theatrical release, distributor Rise And Shine Cinema will be bringing the new documentary film “The Helsinki Effect” by director Arthur Franck to cinemas nationwide from June 12, 2025.
The film takes a fresh look at a long-overlooked political event: the 1975 CSCE conference, and shows how its effects continue to reverberate today.
In the summer of 1975, 35 heads of state and government gathered in Helsinki for the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE).
What appears to be a diplomatic exercise in retrospect becomes a turning point in world history. The film combines archive material, newly accessible documents, and AI-generated speech simulations to create an original, entertaining, and insightful essay film.
Narrated by actor Bjarne Mädel, “The Helsinki Effect” develops into a call for diplomacy and dialogue in times of geopolitical tension.
