From August 28 to September 1, 2025, Berlin Atonal will celebrate its most ambitious edition yet – with a new biennial format and an expanded artistic profile. As the first festival of its kind, it will become an official member of the International Biennial Association and focus on experimental sound art, interdisciplinary performance, and contemporary avant-garde music.
At the iconic Kraftwerk Berlin, a monumental backdrop for audiovisual experiences, Atonal brings together international artists, innovative installations, and expansive performances. With over 100 acts, numerous premieres, and cross-genre collaborations, the festival sets new standards.
Highlights of the 2025 program:
- World premiere of a trio with Merzbow, Iggor Cavalera, and Eraldo Bernocchi
- GRIEND – Industrial Noir project by Puce Mary & Rainy Miller
- Audiovisual Ritual by emptyset & MFO
- Live collaboration by Lee Ranaldo, Peder Mannerfelt & Yonatan Gat
- New A/V work Home by Ziúr & Sandi, with Martina Bertoni and Sara Persico
With the new format Third Surface, Atonal also opens an experimental space for decelerated exchange – inspired by historic salons. Within a curated framework, music, visual art, and discourse intertwine in novel ways. A special art program will be announced soon.
Berlin Atonal 2025 reflects the social and political tensions of a changing city. The festival sees itself as a platform for cultural resistance, artistic innovation, and the strengthening of Berlin's underground scene.
