Book presentation by Marco Overhaus

Democracy is increasingly under attack in the western world. This change has also been observed in the USA for some time now.

In ‘Big Brother Gone’ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Buch), Marco Overhaus describes the crisis of American democracy and what this development means for Europe.

For decades, Europe has relied on American power to guarantee its security: militarily embedded in alliance structures, flanked by economic openness and based on liberal-democratic values. However, these three pillars of Pax Americana have become fragile long before the US elections in 2024.

Dr Marco Overhaus is a researcher in the Americas Research Group at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. He has been researching US foreign and security policy and European security issues for many years. He has also worked in the planning staff of the Federal Foreign Office and the RAND Corpo¬ration in Washington D.C.
