Messe solennelle was composed for mixed choir and two organs and premiered in 1901 at Saint-Sulpice in Paris. At the first performance, Vierne's teacher, Charles-Marie Widor, played the main organ and the composer played the choir organ. The Kyrie begins with the massive organ sound, and the Benedictus has a mystical quality. A prayer for peace in the movement Agnus Dei/Dona nobis pacem melts into the heavenly, radiant choral sound.

With: Arisa Ishibashi (organ), choir of the Fürbitt-Melanchthon and Martin-Luther-Genezareth congregations, choir of the Christuskirche Detmold, Arisa Ishibashi, and KMD Burkhard Geweke (conductor)
