Schubert’s *Die schöne Müllerin* is one of the classic song cycles of European music. For more than two centuries, the story of the wandering journeyman in love who experiences profound disappointment has been retold, sung and performed time and again.


As part of the 2026 Festival, Matthias Goerne, one of the most prominent lieder singers of our time, will give a recital featuring Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin D 795. He will be accompanied by Markus Hinterhäuser on the piano.

The song cycle, in which a wandering journeyman, filled with love, is deeply disappointed, has been performed and sung time and again for more than two centuries and is one of the classics of European music.
