Zuzanna Czebatul's artistic work revolves around the interplay of power, ideology, and their visual expressions. Drawing on monumental buildings, memory culture, and political symbols, she examines how hegemonic aesthetics form and assert themselves.
Her works reveal invisible forces that shape collective narratives and cultural identities. Czebatul juxtaposes concepts such as stability and authorship with fluid concepts of change and decay—and shows how cultural myths are appropriated by nationalist movements.
For Gallery Weekend Berlin (May 2–4, 2025), Zuzanna Czebatul presents her first solo exhibition at DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM: All the Charm of a Rotting Gum.
The focus is a conceptual exploration of the currently inaccessible Pergamon Altar—a symbol of imperial power and a starting point for questions about cultural heritage, political instrumentalization, and images of history.
New works, including reliefs that combine police protective equipment with religious formal language, explore the visual staging of state power, past and present.
