Curtain up for a forgotten heroine of comic book history
Eighty years ago, Señorita Rio – clever, seductive and battle-hardened – stood up to the Nazis. The multilingual spy with style and punch was brought to life by a true pioneer: Lily Renée, one of the first female comic book artists in the United States, who herself has an incredible story to tell.
The new season of the EXIL podcast kicks off with a tribute to Lily Renée.
On 10 November 2025, her companions, comic book experts and acting icon Iris Berben (voice of the podcast) will talk about a woman who fled Vienna as a young, persecuted Jew and not only survived in exile in New York, but also made creative history.
