In the late 1970s, young East German Nelly Senff (Jördis Triebel) flees to West Berlin with her son to start a new life. But at the Marienfelde refugee transit camp, she is met with suspicion and interrogated by Allied intelligence services.
Instead of finding freedom, she faces renewed control, mistrust, and a haunting past. As Nelly struggles for autonomy, she must decide whom she can truly trust.
Christian Schwochow’s drama is based on the novel Campfire (Lagerfeuer) by Julia Franck. The film powerfully portrays hope, suspicion, and the difficult search for a new home in the “other” Germany.
- Feature film, 2013, directed by Christian Schwochow, 102 min.
