Day of action to mark the 35th anniversary of the dismantling of Checkpoint Charlie
35 years ago, the Allied checkpoint was dismantled in a solemn ceremony attended by the foreign ministers of the four occupying powers, the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR.
At the site where US and Soviet tanks faced each other in 1961, they demonstrated their willingness to settle the Cold War. The hopes of that time have not all been fulfilled.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the latest, many have been talking about a new Cold War and the actions of US President Donald Trump are calling the global security order into question. As part of the day of action, they are looking back at the history of the site, the Cold War and its effects up to the present day. The special program includes panel discussions, guided tours and musical contributions.
Further information on the program will follow shortly.
An event organized by the Cold War Center Association in cooperation with the Berlin Wall Foundation and the Allied Museum.
