– Film Screening | Music | Performance –
A land of stories, on the border between reality and fantasy, that defies official narratives and national constructs – the film Until It's Hard To Tell by artist Ceren Oykut unfolds a fictional space of memory, a land that no one knows, that is not marked on any map, and where language moves freely.
Fragments, holes and burn marks become beings. Its characters carry within them voices from personal memory as well as the collective unconscious. They are unlocated, fragile and speak with a power born of survival. They resist inner decay by carrying what remains.
The film unfolds as a personal oral archive in a broken universal language that comes from the unknown, belongs to no one and therefore connects: Just as the film defies nation-state constructs, Muslimgauze stands for pushing boundaries and the sound that accompanied both the film's production and the construction of the Eschschloraque artists' club, where Muslimgauze performed twice in the 1990s.
In reference to his music, woven together across seemingly endless planes, this event creates an experiential space in Eschschloraque as a place of encounter and participation in artistic production.
The film screening will be enriched by Ceren Oykut's live drawing, dialogical sets between sound and space by resident DJ Sheila Chipperfield, and a live performance by KAI Dead Chickens, co-founder of Haus Schwarzenberg and Eschschloraque, among other things, as well as its builder and co-operator – a creative, idiosyncratic happening in the spirit of the artist's club. Here, a language emerging from film, music and performance makes live production and coexistence at Eschschloraque tangible and also carries what remains and what we want to preserve.
The Muslimgauze Tribute is both an echo of a sound seemingly woven endlessly into space and time in a night-long, open-concept event and an expression of sustainable artistic production – endless, until it's hard to tell.
The event is part of the accompanying programme for the exhibition ‘Echohaus’, our third anniversary exhibition celebrating 30 years of Haus Schwarzenberg and the artistic work and influence of Neurotitan, Eschschloraque and Haus Schwarzenberg.
