Späth Nurseries invites you to a colorful gardening weekend with a green market and its traditional festival on September 20th and 21st.
Exhibitors will present gardening ideas, arts and crafts, and plants for the garden, patio, and balcony. The historic grounds will be awash with autumnal blossoms. A large stage program with live music will create a lively atmosphere. There will also be winery wines, culinary specialties, and countless specialties for the home, farm, garden, and kitchen.
HIGHLIGHTS
Fairy Tales, Carriage Rides & Family Program
The Monbijou Theater will transform the Black Barn into a fairytale gem. Storyteller Ellen Luckas will delight the little ones with stories and music. Families can explore the grounds on a carriage ride, while children can get creative with natural materials in the craft tent.New to the grounds: World Field, Variety Garden & Picnic in the Orchard
With colorful perennials and a pumpkin display featuring over 100 edible varieties, Späth Nurseries will celebrate the harvest season. In the new orchard area, picnic baskets from the farm shop invite you to enjoy the fruit. The first apples are already hanging on the young trees – pears, plums, and cherries will soon follow.A special highlight is the World Acre Initiative with its field laboratory for sustainable agriculture. Directly adjacent, the new variety garden with around 450 woody plants – from maple to cypress – opens a living botanical laboratory. Thus, the Späth site is increasingly becoming a place for education, nature, and sustainability.
Experience History & Garden Art
In the open-air tree nursery museum, visitors learn more about the company's more than 300-year history. Gardeners demonstrate pruning techniques for fruit trees, while fruit growers from Thuringia invite visitors to taste, consult, and purchase fruit in the historic packing hall. Pomologist Dr. Hilmar Schwärzel ("Apple Pope") identifies fruit varieties – anyone who likes can bring fruit or leaves.Franz Christanell's exhibition "The Thinking of Things" is on display once again in the garden biotope at the carp pond. His "Franz's Garden" also commemorates Franz Späth, who relocated his nursery to Britz in the 19th century, thus giving the Baumschulenweg district its name.
On stage, rhyming speaker Theo Theodor, as company founder Christoph Späth, leads the program with anecdotes and charm.
