In the midst of upheaval: Afghanistan, August 2021. Women gather in a school – a refuge in a state of emergency. They bring with them memories, inner wounds, and hope. Their stories speak of loss, motherhood, a hunger for education, and the strength to imagine a future despite everything.
A Thousand Stories, One Pain is based on the real experiences of Afghan women – artistically interpreted and brought to the stage through physical theatre.
Between documentary fragments and performative language, a polyphonic chorus emerges – voices, gestures, and inner defiance. A physically poetic piece about invisibility, resistance – and the power of remembrance.
- 60 minutes, recommended starting at age 14
About AWA Theater
AWA is a volunteer-based, self-organized theatre group based in Berlin. Since 2017, it has worked with great sensitivity alongside young people and individuals with refugee backgrounds.
The group creates spaces where stories can be shared without prejudice, voices can be heard, and personal experiences can be creatively brought to the stage.
The AWA Ensemble is composed of artists with Afghan roots who use theatre to shed light on socially relevant issues from a female perspective.
