Wolfram Weimer recently painted a bleak picture at the book fair. AI could “tear apart” the world of literature, said the Minister of State for Culture in Frankfurt. He considers the actions of tech companies from China and the US to be “intellectual vampirism.” The publicist and publisher has been in office since May 2025.His goal is to introduce a digital tax to finance the creative and media landscape. He has his sights set on internet companies such as Google and Meta.
The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media also expressed criticism of public broadcasting. He said the broadcasters appeared to be “left-leaning.”
Weimer has also had to take some flak himself. In the cultural sector, some consider him too inexperienced and “ideological.” Before taking up his political office, the publicist was a frequent guest on political programs, including “Studio 9 - Der Tag mit...” (Studio 9 - The Day with...).
Wolfram Weimer founded the magazine “Cicero” and was editor-in-chief of ‘Welt’ and “Focus.” Most recently, he ran his own publishing house, the Weimer Media Group.
