Talk

For a pretzel, for a word. Deutschlandfunk Kultur invites to the live radio show from the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. Be there when they welcome a prominent guest from culture, science, media or politics to the Mechanical Arena. Have an engaging conversation together about the issues of our time. Chat, argue or think out loud together.

Here you can experience radio up close, to watch and also to join in the discussion. An engaging conversation about the issues of the day, broadcast throughout the republic, made in the new old centre of Berlin, in the rebuilt City Palace.

Ulrike Herrmann is an economic correspondent for the “taz” newspaper and also writes very successful books. Her most recent bestsellers are “Kein Kapitalismus ist auch keine Lösung” (No Capitalism Is Not a Solution Either) and “Das Ende des Kapitalismus” (The End of Capitalism).

After graduating from high school, the Hamburg native first completed a banking apprenticeship. It is possible that Loki Schmidt played a role in this decision, as the neighbor and wife of the future German chancellor is said to have given Ulrike Herrmann her first math problems at the garden fence.

Her banking career was short-lived. Herrmann then graduated from the Henri Nannen School of Journalism and went on to study history and philosophy. Later, she also served as press spokesperson for Hamburg's Senator for Equality.

As a journalist and author, Ulrike Herrmann has been a sought-after guest on political talk shows for years. She most recently appeared as a presenter on the talk show “Missverstehen Sie mich richtig” (Misunderstand Me Correctly).
