A performative try-out based on Franz Kafka

“The principle is guilt #undoubtedly but what guilt?” Welcome to the beginning. In the 20th century. In the era of silent films, vaudeville, shellac records, the Weimar Republic and Franz Kafka.

“In the Penal Colony” is a story by Franz Kafka, published in 1919, in which the legal system of a fictional state is presented. An officer is the focus: He tries to explain to a traveler in detail and with great enthusiasm a sadistic torture device in which a randomly convicted person only learns his own death sentence during the torture machine's lengthy process.

“So far, so content. But how do you play Kafka? And what else do the “golden” 20s have to do with us? Jens Lamprecht invites you to embark on a journey through time. Using his protagonist, he asks questions about guilt, responsibility and the disruption of a society that is undergoing change. Where does the arbitrariness of machines lead to, which can be set in motion at the push of a button and can no longer be stopped - especially in times when we are handing over more and more decisions to algorithms and AIs?

So “Lean back in your comfortable seats, take in the landscape in peace before we reach our holiday paradise.”
