Book presentation and discussion | Concert
In the second volume of the book series "Die Praxis," which Spätschicht x Volksbühne will present this evening, Vaginal Davis offers insights into her practice of collective music-making in the art-punk bands of Los Angeles and Berlin.
Spätschicht – Live-Programm am Gropius Bau is a monthly, free event series with an interdisciplinary program ranging from discussions, book launches, and film screenings to concerts and DJ sets.
In addition to the book launch, you can experience a concert by Dylan Kerr and Cortisa Star, a DJ set by Bobby Beethoven, and a screening by CHEAP this evening.
Vaginal Davis treads dangerous ground as she blurs and crosses the boundaries of genres and genders. In her extensive career spanning more than 40 years, she has founded various art-punk bands, from Afro Sisters to ¡Cholita!, Pedro, Muriel & Esther, black fag, and Tenderloin. As an author and Delphi's "Hurakel," Miss Davis focuses her lively, unruly attention on the collective practice of music-making in the raunchy underground scenes of Los Angeles and Berlin.
Accompanied by music and friends, Vaginal Davis will recount shared performances and rehearsals at the book launch, revealing closely guarded secrets and rifts.
