The Sonica Ensemble is one of the outstanding chamber ensembles of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Five internationally renowned musicians combine their virtuosity and artistic passion to present chamber music of the highest caliber.
Under the artistic direction of Olga Polonsky, Principal First Violinist of the DSO, the ensemble combines exceptional sonic culture with interpretive depth.
Polonsky, a sought-after violinist with experience as a principal in the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Verbier Chamber Orchestra, as well as an enthusiastic chamber musician with festival performances, shapes the ensemble's sound with her stylistic refinement.
Another musical figurehead of the quintet is pianist and conductor Benjamin Hochman, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School in New York. As a celebrated soloist, he has performed with leading orchestras such as the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Prague Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Jerusalem Symphony Orchestras.
The quintet is rounded out by outstanding DSO orchestral musicians: violinist Hyojin Jun, violist Viktor Bátki, and cellist Claudia Benker-Schreiber. Their shared vision of chamber music is reflected in a captivating sound aesthetic that directly touches the listener in the context of this special concert format.
