The fact that the organ still plays a role not only in the church music environment but also as a fully-fledged concert instrument in contemporary music is demonstrated by the works of Thomas Lacôte and Philipp Maintz, two outstanding composers of the younger generation.

Maximilian Schnaus combines their music with various chorale arrangements and free organ works by György Ligeti and Johann Sebastian Bach, whose music can be performed particularly well on the drawingly intoned and versatile Schuke organ of the Sophienkirche.
