A first in the history of the Berlin State Opera!

Never before has Richard Strauss's Die schweigsame Frau been performed at this house – this great comedy from the late oeuvre of the former music director.

Even before the premiere, you have the opportunity to become intimately acquainted with this rare and multifaceted work in the Opera Salon, thus elevating your operatic experience to a whole new level.

Stefan Zweig wrote a delicate, light-hearted libretto for Strauss, whose plot, at first glance, appears extremely simple. But what a wealth of music and emotion Strauss draws from this simple source material! The stylistic diversity of the highly virtuosic music is almost overwhelming, boisterously jumping between Romantic tone painting, atonal noise, English Renaissance music, and bel canto parodies.

Elias Corrinth, a proven Wagner and Strauss expert, plays and explains this complex and heartwarming late work, explaining its musical structure and the astonishingly dense network of leitmotifs.
