Silent film cinema with live music by and with Buster Keaton
A masterpiece of "matter-of-fact comedy" by Buster Keaton. This inventive comedy about two wealthy layabouts who, after turbulent entanglements, find themselves alone on a deserted ocean liner, became an unparalleled pas de deux in the history of grotesque films. Surreal punchlines, breakneck stunts, and one of the first underwater sequences in film history elevated filmmaker Keaton to the Olympus of the most successful film comedians of his time with "The Navigator."
The supporting film "THE BOAT" (1922) also shows Buster Keaton on an adventurous sea voyage—with a bathtub as a lifeboat, schnitzel to fill the holes, and the whole family in tow.
Both films are accompanied live on the grand piano by silent film pianist Richard Siedhoff and screened with a rattling 16mm projector.
In cooperation with the Verein Laufende Bilder e.V. & Metropolis Orchester Berlin.
