The transition into the 21st century was also a turning point in graphic design. Relieved that the world hadn't been plunged into chaos by the Y2K bug at the turn of the millennium, the design scene embraced computers completely: digital design – still a novelty in the 1990s – was now an integral part of the design process.

The internet and smartphones called for innovative solutions, and pixels and screens often shaped the design language of posters. Photography and typography found new symbioses, while hand drawing and lettering provided an analog (but increasingly digitally processed) counterpart.

In 2002, the "100 Best Posters" competition, originally born in the GDR, was relaunched in a nationwide relaunch, now also including Austria and Switzerland. Parallel to the exhibition "100 Best Posters 24," the "Nah dran!" evening in July will explore graphic design trends based on award-winning posters from the 2000s.

Together with Heike Grebin and Niklaus Troxler, both among the winners of the 2000s, Christina Thomson (Kunstbibliothek, Graphic Design Collection) will present selected groups of works.

Heike Grebin, graphic designer, typographer, and exhibition architect in Berlin. Partner of Grappa Design in 1989, founded Blotto Design in 2002, and Studio Troppo Design since 2014. Professor of Communication Design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.

Niklaus Troxler, Swiss graphic designer and poster designer in Berlin and Willisau, Switzerland. Founded his studio in 1973, and was a professor of communication design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1998 to 2013. AGI member and winner of numerous design awards.
