The "Mark Twain" District Central Library invites you to a special cinematic experience: The screening of the impressive documentary film "Script: The Times" by Barbara and Winfried Junge – a three-part retrospective of the long-term project "The Children of Golzow," which began in 1961 and ended in 2007.

With a running time of 284 minutes (!), this 10th of 19 films is not only a historical document, but also a cinematic monument. It was made after the fall of the GDR and presented at the Berlinale's International Forum of New Cinema in 1993.

Awarded the second main prize and the "Citizens of the City Prize" in Yamagata (Japan), it was also shown in São Paulo, Beijing, Vancouver, and through Goethe-Instituts worldwide. A cinematic look back at the lives of children who began school in 1961 – shortly after the construction of the Berlin Wall.

The chronicle condenses GDR history into personal portraits and reflects on the profound upheavals of 1989/90. The film shows how a 15-minute short film for the cinema became one of the most important long-term observations in film history – with insights into the village of Golzow, the DEFA (Department of State and Work), censorship, everyday life, and the hope for change in the GDR, which aspired to become a socialist state. The film series is considered one of the 100 most important films in 100 years of film history.

There will be two breaks during which you can talk to director Winfried Junge and his wife Barbara Junge. Food and drinks will be available.
