On July 12, the Junges Ensemble Berlin choir will perform summer choral music from Scandinavia, the Baltic states, and Germany in Berlin. The program includes works from Sweden, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania—countries that share not only a turbulent and deeply intertwined history, but also a rich choral tradition, a deep connection to nature, and a very special relationship with the often short but intense summer months.
Under the direction of Vinzenz Weissenburger, the choir will present a diverse a cappella program with pieces by Jean Sibelius, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Robert Schumann, Hugo Alfvén, Wilhelm Stenhammar, Vytautas Miškinis, and others. With traditional folk songs, romantic choral pieces, contemporary compositions, and a world premiere, the reigning winner of the "A2 Mixed Choirs" category at the German Choir Competition speaks of the joy of music and brings starry nights and blooming summer meadows, rushing rivers, and verdant forests to life.
On Saturday, July 12, the program will be performed at the Trinitatiskirche in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
