Appreciating treasures with Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel
What is an object really worth? The true value of an object is not only measured in figures, not only in the market price. Some objects are invaluable because they carry memories, tell stories or embody emotional ties.
At the same time, it is fascinating to see how this sentimental value overlaps with or differs from the economic value: Why is something traded at a high price - and why are some treasures priceless at heart, even though they are hardly "worth" anything materially?
In the event "Loved Things - Appreciating Treasures", they want to explore precisely this area of tension: Between what is counted - and what really counts.
A discussion with art historian Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel - known from the ZDF show "Bares für Rares" - and presenter Alex Schirmer
The focus is on personal objects that visitors bring with them and whose stories they tell. Why is an object of particular value? What memories of family, friendships and love do they associate with it?
Dr. Rezepa-Zabel takes an art and cultural-historical look at these personal treasures. She explains how materials and manufacturing methods can be identified, how marks, stamps and stylistic features can be classified - and what an object tells us about its origin and its time. The result is an exciting dialog between individual memory and cultural-historical knowledge, between personal and economic value.
Your favorite object could be one of 10 objects that Heide Rezepa-Zabel will examine. Send a photo and a short description of the object to langenacht@museumderdinge.de by August 10.
