Lecture by Alexandra Otten, specialist at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg

On the morning after the Reichstag fire, on February 28, 1933, the well-known pacifist writer Carl von Ossietzky was arrested and taken to the Spandau Fortress Prison. Letters from this period have been preserved and are now on display in the exhibition at the Citadel.

In her lecture, Alexandra Otten traces the struggle of the democrat, who was ultimately murdered in a concentration camp in 1938, against the Nazi dictatorship and highlights the significance of Ossietzky's work for the present.
