Poland was particularly hard hit by extermination and violence during the Second World War. The extensive destruction of Warsaw, the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto and the resistance put up by the Polish and Jewish population are symbolic of this.

The themed tour to commemorate the Warsaw Uprising focuses on objects that were shown in early post-war exhibitions in Poland, for example in the National Museum in Warsaw or the Jewish Historical Institute. These include a bronze head of the national poet Adam Mickiewicz and a postcard with a picture of the destroyed Great Synagogue.
The tour invites visitors to reflect on the staging of national identity and heroic stories in post-war Poland on the one hand, and on their after-effects on today's culture of remembrance on the other.
