String Quartets by Lachenmann, Iannotta, and Dreyer

Helmut Lachenmann once said that composing for him means “to bring about a situation in sound, which, while not new to me, nonetheless remains alien, for it is in this that I lose myself, and in so doing truly find myself again.” In his three string quartets, the composer has found (and reinvented) himself in ever new ways.

Close collaborators of Lachenmann for several years, the musicians of the JACK Quartet perform his Gran Torso from 1971 and the 2001 Grido, the first and last work of the group.

Their program also includes Clara Iannotta’s dead wasps in the jam-jar (iii), written in 2017, and a new piece by Danish composer Mads Emil Dreyer.
