Comedy by Ephraim Kishon with the New Globe Theater Potsdam
The Neues Globe Potsdam's latest touring production will be a highlight of the theater season:Israeli-born Ephraim Kishon was and is very popular in Germany for his sharp wit and satirical view of social norms.
His comedy takes a humorous and ironic look at the married life of Romeo and Juliet, more than 30 years after their supposed deaths. The audience sees Romeo as a ballet teacher and Juliet as a nagging housewife dealing with everyday challenges, somewhere between "Who does the washing up?" and "Do you still love me?".
Her rebellious daughter Lucretia, the gossipy and slightly lascivious wet nurse and the charming, albeit demented Father Lorenzo provide additional turbulence.
William Shakespeare, who intervenes from beyond the grave, tries to bring order to the undignified goings-on. And the resolution of the dilemma is more than surprising for everyone involved!
Kishon interweaves music and dialog in a way that both entertains the audience and makes them think. His works, which have sold over 41 million copies worldwide, reflect a deep knowledge of human nature and an incomparable storytelling ability.
"It was the Lark" is a unique opportunity to experience classic literary figures in a new light, enriched by musical elements that further emphasize Kishon's comedic talent and make for an entertaining and entertaining theatrical experience.
