Ismael Duá has dedicated himself to a very specific format for his paintings. Since 2006, the artist has worked exclusively in DIN A4 format. For Duá, this standardized paper size is both his subject and his research tool.
ISMAEL DUÁ "NORM TAKES PLACE"
Ismael Duá discovered his preference for small formats with Professor Andreas von Weizsäcker. With Professor Magdalena Jetelová, he found an uncompromising view of the bigger picture. And with Professor Jean-Marc Bustamante, his love of painting was rekindled.
Ismael Duá was born in Berlin in 1981; his second home is Conakry, Guinea. He studied international politics in Wales and fine art in Munich. The artist now lives in Neukölln, where, in addition to his artistic work, he runs a creative project space. There, among other things, he successfully curated the art project "KAPiTAL" – a format specializing in artist discussions – for ten years.
INVITATION, the exhibition series of the "Michael Schröder Foundation – Collection for Contemporary Art"
presents inspiring artists who fit the foundation's profile and are part of the current art scene. The focus of this exhibition series is not mainstream, but courage.
