On September 14, 1955, Berlin's first park library opened its doors in the southern part of Pankow Citizens' Park. By 1978, the 12-square-meter pavilion had finally become too small.
The new building was constructed in 1986, on the same site, but with additional rooms, now 90 square meters in size. Until the turn of the millennium, the library was operated by the Pankow City District Library. After that, it was only sporadically kept alive by volunteers. Then it was over. The building fell into disrepair, the books rotted away.
Intrepid activists from the association FÜR PANKOW e.V. (FOR PANKOW e.V.) decided in 2018, together with the new tenant, to revive the park library. The building was renovated, new books were collected, and with the support of many volunteers and sponsors, the park library was able to resume operations in April 2019.
On July 3, 2025, this beautiful venue will host an improvisational theater performance.
Admission is free.
They would be very grateful for a donation.
