Spätschicht x Schwules Museum

At this year's first edition of Spätschicht, Hugo Tepest will offer insights into his essay "Are Penises Real?" This essay explores transition, self-perception, penises, and society. The reading and subsequent discussion will be moderated by Lee Everett Thieler.

"For as long as I can remember, I've been convinced that I couldn't be a man without a penis." Hugo was in his mid-thirties when he began his transition. In the chaos of his newfound masculinity, he searched for answers to what penises meant to him, to his body, his self-image. To who he was, who he is, and who he can be. In society and in bed.

To find answers, Hugo Tepest talks to people—with and without penises—about anxieties and power, about cultural history and its significance, about sexuality, size, and fantasies, and writes with disarming candor about a body part that is so much more than that.
