Kiosk for a Magic Future: Participatory Performance
Glaciers are shapeshifting archives. When they are growing, they collect and preserve something within their layers. When they are melting, they release the memory they contain. It seeps through their cracks, wets the land, becomes clouds, and rains down on rivers and seas. Eventually, it can even be bottled and sold for consumption.
Like glaciers, recipes are also archives of habits, traditions, displacements, and replacements. When a glacier melts, it undergoes a change in state. When a recipe travels, it carries a method, rather than a fixed set of guidelines. A community that dilutes no longer has a contained shape, but rather a multiplicity of customs that are performed and changed through their movements and interactions.
Cooking becomes a way to hold and transform landscapes, while practicing it in all its different possible iterations. This collective cooking action invites participants to seek ways in practicing disappearance.
