District Church Day of the Protestant Church District of Berlin South-East

On June 28 and 29, 2025, the Evangelical Church District of Berlin South-East invites you to the District Church Day on the grounds of the former Stasi headquarters - today's Campus for Democracy in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Under the motto “ZuMUTung FREIheit”, the event will focus on the tension between the past and the future, between remembrance and social responsibility.

The district church day begins on Saturday evening with a musical program: the choir project “Lighthill Gospel” and Andrej Hermlin's swing orchestra will perform an atmospheric concert program. On Sunday, the day starts at 11 a.m. with a festive church service, followed by a varied program - with discussion rounds, cultural contributions and activities for all age groups.

Children and families can look forward to the musical “Jonah and the Whale” and a specially designed family tent.

Other highlights include a performance of Handel's “Messiah” in a special version for choir and saxophone quartet, as well as a panel discussion on the topic of “Freedom” with historian and journalist Dr. Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk.

The Stasi Records Archive will also be offering free guided tours of the “Insight into Secrecy” exhibition, the archive and the historical site.

Catering stands with food and drinks will provide refreshments. Admission to all program items is free of charge.
